It’s not that Linda hasn’t always had an interest in finance, she has. A lot of interest. But to say she took the traditional path to become a Financial Strategist at a wealth management firm wouldn’t be accurate.
She began her education in pursuit of a degree in English at Vassar. Then went on to earn her Bachelor’s Degree in Economics at Columbia University in New York, where she also landed a job as a financial analyst. That was soon followed by a stint as a Personal Finance Educator to high schoolers before taking time out to co-produce an opera about the Boston Tea Party. That’s right, an opera.
But her interest soon returned to finance. The key was to find a career that she wanted to do. Work that was needed. That’s when she decided to pursue a career in financial planning. “What we’re offering is more than just investment advice. We’re offering financial literacy. A lot of people understand the basic concepts of investing, but don’t understand the whole financial picture,” explained Linda.
She earned an advanced diploma in Certified Financial Planning, gained investment experience at a few finance firms, and started pursuing her CFP before she met Kim at Toastmasters. “We hit it off right away, so I was disappointed when Linda turned me down to become more involved at their local chapter,” recalls Kim.
The reason? Linda needed to focus on getting financial planning experience as part of her CFP® certification! And the rest was history. Linda joined Playfair Planning, passed her securities exams and, just recently, received her a Certified Financial Planner® designation.
Along the way, Linda also found time to have two children – both in college. She’s famed for her Argentinian brisket with chimichurri sauce and tries to keep family recipes and traditions from her husband’s Jewish culture and her South Korean heritage. She’s an avid tennis player and the proud owner of two guinea pigs — Oreo and Steve.
What’s next on the horizon for Linda? She plans to continue to follow in Kim’s footsteps and build on her education in private wealth management. We can’t wait to see what she accomplishes next.
